While Christian McCaffrey, Breece Hall, and Bijan Robinson are the only running backs with a consensus first-round ADP this year, fantasy players can find outstanding options in the second round.
There are four second-round running backs that are borderline first-round selections, especially in non-PPR scoring – Jonathan Taylor, Saquon Barkley, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Kyren Williams. While Barkley and Gibbs are part of elite offenses, Taylor and Williams might have the most upside from this group of running backs.
However, which running back should fantasy players draft first in 2024? Let’s dive into their fantasy football outlooks.

Kyren Williams 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Williams was the RB6 in 2023, averaging 19.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He had 228 rushing attempts for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 contests. The second-year star was the RB2 on a fantasy points-per-game basis last year, finishing only behind McCaffrey. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Rams added Blake Corum during the NFL Draft. The rookie will have a role in 2024, meaning Williams won’t have a featured workload for the second consecutive season.

Jonathan Taylor 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Taylor was the RB33 last year, averaging 14.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. The superstar is an explosive runner, totaling 169 rushing attempts for 741 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 contests. Unfortunately, he has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons. While the Indianapolis Colts didn’t add meaningful competition in the backfield after losing Zack Moss in free agency, Anthony Richardson will cut into Taylor’s rushing touchdown upside, especially at the goal line.

Who Should I Draft?
Fantasy players should love to draft either running back in the second round of their draft this year, especially after using their top pick on a stud wide receiver like A.J. Brown or Garrett Wilson. However, I would draft Taylor over Williams. The former Wisconsin star has less competition for touches out of the backfield. Furthermore, he has been arguably the top running back when healthy. Don’t be surprised if Taylor has a top-three finish in 2024.
