Newly acquired All-Star Craig Kimbrel earned his first loss in a Red Sox uniform on Monday. Entering the 9th inning in a 6-6 ball game, Kimbrel fired a 97-mph fastball to Orioles slugger Chris Davis that he wished he had back, as Davis demolished it for a three-run, game-winning home run. The Orioles entered the game undefeated and knew that it would be hard to stay perfect in enemy territory. Now, with a 6-0 record, they remain the lone unbeaten team in baseball.
Fantasy owners should have nothing to worry about with Kimbrel. It takes time for a player to adjust to a new team with new surroundings. Since 2010, Kimbrel has a 1.62 ERA and has only had an ERA north of 2.00 twice in his entire seven-year career. As arguably the best closer in baseball, he should be held onto tightly by all of his fantasy owners.
