BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 36% of leagues
ANALYSIS: An afterthought in almost any fantasy league at the start of the year, Kevin Newman has forced owners to, in the immortal words of Birdman, put some respect on his name. The rookie is hitting .321/.376/.469 with five home runs and five stolen bases in 59 games, parlaying above-average speed and contact ability into reliable production.
Newman's run production to this point has been modest, but the hot bat he's been swinging in recent weeks has seen him supplant Adam Frazier as the Pirates' primary leadoff hitter. It's unlikely that he'll hit for much power, but he did swipe 28 bags at Triple-A last season, so there's plausible upside for more stolen bases in the season's second half. Despite a surge in ownership rate over the last week, he remains free to add in nearly two-thirds of Yahoo leagues at the moment.
