Kennys Vargas (1B/DH, MIN) - 2015 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper

BALLER MOVE: Draft Target Late in All Leagues

ANALYSIS: Kennys Vargas got a brief taste of major league pitching last season - and after racking up nine home runs, 10 doubles and 38 RBI in just 215 at bats, he is ready for a second helping in 2015. Vargas’ career minor league power numbers and his success in his brief time in the majors have the Twins targeting him as their cleanup hitter this season. With fantasy baseball owners putting a premium on home runs in this current “dead ball” era, a sleeper like Vargas, with an ADP of 300 and a well above average .196 career minor league ISO, can be invaluable.

There are a few concerns regarding this 25 year old who was promoted to the majors straight from AA ball last season. At 6’ 5” and 275 lbs. Vargas has had to work at keeping his weight in control, and he does need to cut back on his strikeouts and walk a bit more. However, the Twins are hoping that his patience as a hitter, as well as his career .288 minor league batting average, will eventually carry over to the big show. Although primarily used a DH, depending on your league’s rules, Vargas may be eligible at first base since he played 13 games at that position last season. Based on his upside and current ADP, Vargas can be a draft day sleeper and bargain.
