Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B, PIT) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

Jamie Steed profiles Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes as a waiver wire pickup and add in Week 8 of the 2020 MLB season.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

ROSTERED IN: 8% of leagues

ANALYSIS: Ke'Bryan Hayes was called up to the Pirates this last week and homered in his first Major League appearance. Through four games, Hayes has a .357/.400/.786 slash line with three extra-base hits. Unfortunately for Hayes, he's one of the worst offenses in the Major League who ranks 27th in runs scored, 29th in slugging percentage and is dead last in OBP. Hayes has also only featured in the bottom half of the Pirates batting order which limits the potential number of counting stats he can accumulate.

But there is hope for Hayes as he has looked good at the plate so far, which was the biggest question mark on his Major League credentials. Hayes has been arguably the best defensive third baseman throughout his Minor Leagues career and is on a team with nothing to play for except professional pride, meaning Hayes should get plenty of game time going forward. Hayes isn't just a glove only third baseman as he has a career Minor League slash line of .279/.354/.399 and his season-high ten homers came last year at the Triple-A level, suggesting he is still developing his power. Hayes does have 66 stolen bases in 461 career Minor League games so can help out on the basepaths too. It's hard to see Hayes being a difference-maker in fantasy this year but he could still contribute in all five fantasy categories so in leagues with 14+ teams, Hayes should be in consideration for a spot on your rosters.
