ANALYSIS: No, Keaton Mitchell is not a create-a-player. He is indeed a very real person who plays running back for the Baltimore Ravens and accounted for over 3,000 rushing yards during his college career at East Carolina.
The little-known undrafted rookie began the 2023 season on Injured Reserve, though he recently generated some fantasy football buzz when he returned to Ravens practice this week, as the team opened his 21-day window to be activated from IR. Mitchell displayed explosiveness and quick-burst ability both in college and in preseason action with Baltimore.
Mitchell will now join the free-for-all that is the Ravens backfield. Since J.K Dobbins went down with a season-ending injury in Week 1, Baltimore has known nothing but strife at the running back position. A committee that's included Justice Hill, Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon III, and Kenyan Drake has been both banged up and largely ineffective for the Ravens' offense, which many believe has left the door cracked for the explosive rookie to come in and quickly earn playing time.
Mitchell should be considered a deep-league stash at the moment, though there's a chance he could see action in the future as Baltimore searches for a steady contributor at the RB position. Fantasy managers shouldn't prioritize the rookie, but he's worth a dart throw for those with an eye on the future and free space on their benches.
