Welcome back, RotoBallers, to another KBO DFS column. It’s a brand new week of KBO DFS and while MLB struggles to find come to an agreement on their season, we still have foreign baseball to satisfy our fantasy fix.
New to KBO? DraftKings and FanDuel will use the same scoring system that they do for MLB, however, the roster builds are much different on FanDuel. You must roster two infielders, two outfielders, and two utility players along with a pitcher for a total of only seven players on FanDuel. DraftKings has kept its normal MLB structure with two starting pitchers and an entire eight-hitter lineup for a total of ten players. Building lineups on each site is going to be very different.
Today, I'll be providing my KBO DFS lineup picks and analysis for this five-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel that locks at 5:30 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Both DraftKings and FanDuel have large contests with big top prizes. DraftKings' largest contest has a top prize of $20K to first and FanDuel has a contest with a top prize of $5K to first. KBO DFS Pitchers
Strikeout rates are much lower in KBO. An average MLB K% would be among the league leaders in KBO. The lower strikeout numbers make innings, wins, and quality starts (on Fanduel) much more important for KBO DFS. Most of the league leaders in innings pitched last season were foreign pitchers.
Eric Jokisch - Kiwoom Starting P ($9700 DraftKings / $25 FanDuel)
Jokisch has six straight quality starts including one against Lotte where he gave up two runs in six innings. Lotte is the worst team in the league against lefties with a .270 wOBA and only one HR. Jokisch has dominated at home with 16 Ks in 13 innings while giving up no runs.
Chan Heon Jung - LG Starting P ($6500 DraftKings / $28 FanDuel )
Jung is top ten in the league for K% among starters. Hanwha leads the league in K%. Three out of Jung's four starts have been quality. The only exception was his debut as a starter where he pitched four innings against Doosan. Jung faced Hanwha three weeks ago and gave up two HRs. One of HRs was hit by a player that was sent down to the Futures League. Don't be fooled by Hanwha's two game win streak. One of those games was up against a lefty and Doosan has a bad bullpen. LG has the best bullpen in the league. If Jang leaves the game with the lead, he's likely to get the win.
Other starters to consider are
- Drew Rucinski - NC Starting P ($9800 DraftKings / $27 FanDuel )
- Raul Alcantara - Doosan Starting P ($7900 DraftKings / $26 FanDuel)
KBO Top Hitter Stacks
KBO de-juiced the ball last season and power numbers declined. Home runs are way up and it looks like the juice is back. Build stacks centered around middle of the order power hitters or top of the order speed.
Don't overlook hitters batting sixth and seventh especially in top offenses. Some teams also have hitters with speed batting eighth or ninth that function almost like second leadoff hitters. Our preferred stacking strategy is 4/2/2 or 3/3/2 on DraftKings and 3/3 or 2/2/2 on FanDuel.
LG Twins
Even with Ramos out, the Twins are still a top hitting team on the road. Chae, Oh and Yoo have hit multiple HRs on the road. Kim bats second and has a .388 wOBA. Min Jae Jang has not been pitching deep into games so the Twins are likely to face the bullpen for at least half the game.
- Hyun Soo Kim - OF ($5500 DraftKings / $14 FanDuel)
- Kang Nam Yoo - C ($4100 DraftKings / $8 FanDuel)
- Eun Sung Chae - OF ($3400 DraftKings / $11 FanDuel)
- Ji Hwan Oh - SS ($3300 DraftKings / $9 FanDuel)
SK Wyverns
Kim Min Soo started the season in the bullpen and only has two starts. Soo is unlikely to pitch deep into the game and the KT bullpen is the worst in the league. Jeong Choi has a .183 ISO and .381 wOBA. Jamie Romak has a .212 ISO and a .378 wOBA. Ji Hoon Choi leads off and has a .374 wOBA and three steals.
- Jaime Romak - 1B/OF ($5100 DraftKings / $11 FanDuel)
- Jeong Choi - 3B/SS ($4700 DraftKings / $14 FanDuel)
- Ji Hoon Choi - OF ($2700 DraftKings / $5 FanDuel)
Other Stacks to Consider
- Kiwoom Heroes
- Kt Wiz
