Hello everyone and welcome to my debut KBO DFS column at Rotoballer. If you haven't been following me on Twitter @efhatch1990dfs, then you should start! I have been covering KBO since day one and creating my own personal sheets to help people win money. I am going to include some of that data here in my Rotoballer column, too.
New to KBO? Don't worry, we got you covered! DraftKings and FanDuel will use the same scoring system that they do for MLB, however, the roster builds are much different on FanDuel. You must roster two infielders, two outfielders, and two utility players along with a pitcher for a total of only seven players on FanDuel. DraftKings has kept its normal MLB structure with two starting pitchers and an entire eight-hitter lineup for a total of ten players. Building lineups on each site is going to be a good bit different on most nights.
Today, I'll be providing my KBO DFS lineup picks and analysis for this five-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel that locks at 5:30 AM on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. Both DraftKings and FanDuel have large contests with big top prizes. DraftKings' largest contest has a top prize of $25K to first and FanDuel has a contest with a top prize of $5K to first. Make sure you are also following me @Grownfool on Twitter!

KBO DFS Pitchers
Chang Mo Koo (10K DraftKings, $28 FanDuel) led this group of lefty starters in K% at 25.4 in 2019, 5.8% higher than the second best and 6.8% higher than the third.
Now the problem is he's facing Doosan, who have been a powerhouse offense this year. They have had three starts against lefties so far and have hit two of them hard but were held to two earned runs in six innings by a really good lefty in Hyun Jong Yang.
I posted a table to compare 2019 data for all 4 lefties and it kinda matches up to how those games went. In his first two starts he's been ridiculously good and one start was against KT and we've all seen how they started the season. He's only given up six hits in 14 innings and his price tag and match up are going to drive his ownership down.
This is a very risky spot for Chang Mo Koo but his career stats show a little control issue given up 9.6% walks which is middle of the road among today's starters and he's had a 6.1% this season. He does have a tendency to give up the long ball, so like I said boom or bust. Today, I'll be making three lineups, two GPP lineups and one cash lineup and he will be in one of my GPP lines. I'll also hedge against him in my other GPP line.
Je Seong Bae (6.9K DraftKings, $25 FanDuel) will be a cheap pitcher that I'll be looking at as an SP2 on DraftKings. I like that the projected starting line up has the highest K% from 2019 at 19.5% and second lowest walk rate which will help with his middling BB%.
He has been very serviceable averaging 15.9 DraftKings points in his first 2 starts. HAN is ranked last for ISO, wOBA, and third from last in wRC+. This is mostly a salary play for me and I think he can get through five or six innings without giving up too many runs with some extra strikeout upside.
Other starters to consider are:
- Tyler Wilson - LG Starting Pitcher (risky)
- Dan Straily - Lotte Starting Pitcher
KBO Top Hitter Stacks
KT Wiz (-190)
KT will be chalky today but i really like them having a 10-run total and how hot their bats have been. They have a good matchup against Min Jae Jung Tonight, who had an ERA of 5.43 in 2019 and gave up 14 hrs. He seems very hittable, while this KT team has a wOBA and wRC+ that rank third out of the teams tonight and are tied for fourth in ISO.
They have been playing really well lately and are lead by Baek Ho Kang and Mel Rojas Jr., I also don't mind Woo Jun Sim leading off for cheap.
Doosan Bears (-135)
Like i said earlier, I will be hedging my one Chang Mo Koo lineup with a DOO stack in another lineup. I see this going game going one of two ways and even if they don't get to him early they could do some damage to the bullpen which at a quick glance doesn't look to be doing so well.
Only one bullpen arm has an ERA under four in an extremely small sample size so there not getting destroyed but this is a very good hitting team.
Kiwoom Heroes (-205)
Kiwoom will be another team that I'm looking to stack, with 10-run total. Jong Hoon Park is a run of the mill pitcher that his FIP shows he has been lucky in the ERA department. KIW has had a somewhat slow start compared to their 2019 numbers which are posted in the image below.
They have a lot of power in the top and middle of the order, they're just not showing it yet until last night when they put up 11 runs. Byung Ho Park cracked one last night and I like him a lot again tonight.
The top five hitters are the main targets with Ji Young Lee at C is a decent value. He's been doing well this year and their other catcher Dong Won Park has hit three homers as well as Jung Hoo Lee who also has three homers.
Good luck in your contests everyone, and stop back again for more KBO DFS analysis at RotoBaller!
