BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 3% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: I'm writing this post after TNF and before Sunday's games. Although that clearly impacts the counting stats of the Cardinals/Saints that appeared in last Thursday's game, it is not that it changes things that much. I'm talking mostly about Juwan Johnson's 327 snaps played this season.
Only six other tight ends (including Zach Ertz; 7 games played) have been on the field for more individual snaps than Johnson so far this season. Looked at it from another, fairer angle, Johnson's appeared in 85% of all Saints snaps--only five other TEs have shares larger than that (including mediocre Cole Kmet).
While Johnson has benefited from the absences of WRs Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Chris Olave, and even TEs Adam Trautman and Taysom Hill (?), he is the leading snap-playing man in New Orleans through seven games this season. No other player except Chris Olave (72%) is above a snap share of 67%.
Of course, that doesn't mean much if the production isn't right and reasonable for fantasy GMs to throw a WW dart toward Johnson. And, honestly, it's not been great. Johnson is coming off a season-best match in which he caught five-of-five targets for 32 yards and two touchdowns (his first two this year) for 20.2 PPR points. That is, simply put, an outlier and a performant impossible to repeat ROS.
That said, Johnson has scored around 6-to-8 PPR points per game prior to that getting an average of 4+ targets per game. That's definitely nothing impressive, but the TE2-level cutoff is at 6.2 PPR points right now.
You can probably do a bit better, but if you are part of a TE-premium/super-deep league then consider adding Johnson to your team if only because of the opportunities he is already (and will keep) getting ROS.
