ANALYSIS: Baltimore Ravens RB Justice Hill will see an increased role moving forward with the season-ending injury that rookie RB Keaton Mitchell suffered in the team’s 23-7 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15.
The 26-year-old had been largely out of the mix of the Ravens’ backfield with the emergence of Mitchell. Hill saw four of his five carries in the fourth quarter after Mitchell’s injury. He finished with five carries for 23 yards on the night.
The last time Hill saw significant opportunities was early in the season when Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. Hill scored three touchdowns in the first four weeks of the season when the backfield consisted primarily of just him and RB Gus Edwards.
Edwards will likely remain as the Ravens’ power and goal-line back, whereas Hill will see increased opportunities in the passing game and as a change of pace back. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy has desirable speed, running a 4.40 40-yard dash.
The Ravens are set to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16 on Monday Night Football. Baltimore enters that game as five-point underdogs, which would imply additional passing volume for QB Lamar Jackson and company if they find themselves in a deficit early. If that’s the case, Hill can see additional opportunities as he has shown to be a viable pass-catching option out of the backfield.
Hill is worth a pickup on the waiver wire as his opportunities and touches will increase significantly for the final stretch of the fantasy season.
