BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper/ NL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: Junior Lake’s career started out with a bang last July but has cooled considerably like a Junior Mint. The 24-year-old outfielder has a lot of potential but can’t seem to put together a string of solid at bats to sustain production over the course of an entire season. From the eye test it appears Lake is completely capable of gaining access to the exclusive 30-30 club, but he won’t be on the list to get in for a couple years at the earliest. As far as this season goes, among all players with the minimum qualifying plate appearances, Lake has the 10th highest swing rate outside the strike zone with the lowest contact rate on pitches outside-the-zone. That’s a great recipe to cook up a ton of ugly strikeouts. Of course when he does make contact, the ball tends to travel pretty far and he is hitting a good amount of fly balls which will translate to homeruns in Wrigley. During July and August, he could go on a nice home run tear. If it’s homeruns and speed you need and nothing else, feel free to grab him. Everyone else should stay away this season.
