BALLER MOVE: Target ~ 55 (Current ADP: 67, WR: 25)
ANALYSIS: If you were to ask any average fantasy owner to name you three offensive players on the New England Patriots it's conceivable Julian Edelman wouldn't even make that list. Chances are they would name Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and one of the random running backs the Patriots use on a weekly basis. The intriguing part about Edelman's value as a fantasy sleeper this year is just that, he's not talked about enough.
The case for Edelman as a fantasy sleeper comes in three parts: 1) The receivers going directly ahead of him are less proven commodities with additional concerns attached to each of them. Torrey Smith still has Joe Flacco throwing to him, Percy Harvin is an injury waiting to happen, and Cordarrelle Patterson simply hasn't emerged as a fantasy star just yet. 2) The number one receiver in a Tom Brady offense has consistently been a reliable fantasy option, even when you consider the statistical drop off from Welker's numbers to Edelman's. 3) If Rob Gronkowski manages to stay healthy (which is obviously a big "if") the entire offense benefits due to the defense focusing on the big tight end. That in itself contributes to Edelman's upside, which, in the sixth round, makes him absolutely worth it. Give me the number one receiver on a Tom Brady offense over an unproven commodity any day of the week, especially when there's plenty of upside to be had.
