ANALYSIS: Already 29 years old, Juan Nicasio made his Pirates debut this past week to much acclaim. The former Rockies and Dodgers pitcher struck out seven while giving up just one run on two hits in his first start. The six-inning performance against the Cardinals brought his first victory as a starter since May of 2014. This week he’ll make his first start in Detroit against Anibal Sanchez. Owned in 19% of Fleaflicker leagues, Nicasio a decent gamble coming off his impressive debut.
His second start of the week looks like an easier task— he will be taking on a weak Milwaukee Brewers team slated to finish in the bottom of their division. The projected opposing pitcher, Tyler Cravy, is 0-8 with a 5.70 ERA for his career. Nicasio won’t need to be special to win on Sunday.
