BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 33% of leagues
ANALYSIS: JT Brubaker picked up right where he left off on his encouraging 2020 rookie campaign with a full head of steam this year, making it through 13 starts (71.2 IP) with a 3.77 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 4.05 FIP, and four wins despite the overall success of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been particularly in the zone over his last four starts, producing a 2.82 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across 22.1 IP.
He has built on his strikeout rate ever so slightly to get above the MLB average, and he has cut his walk rate by 3.3% from last season, so while he is allowing more hard contact and a greater average exit velocity, he is also neutralizing the effectiveness of batted balls by allowing 3.7% fewer line drives and forcing more grounders, which makes the decrease of his BABIP down to .284 seem quite sustainable. He's using his slider more and his curve less, which could be interpreted multiple ways considering the -0.7 value of his slider and 1.6 value of his curve, but his fastball has improved to a near-positive value from a value of -4.8 last season. For a reliable start with a bit of everything to offer, JT Brubaker is a prudent acquisition in moderate-size leagues.
