ANALYSIS: Josh Smith currently boasts the 24th-highest batting average in baseball, the 16th-highest on-base percentage, and is tied for the 18th most doubles. While Smith has benefited from injuries to other players, the injury bug continues to plague Texas. Josh Jung is on the verge of a rehab assignment, meaning he should be back for his third base starting job soon. Meanwhile, Corey Seager is sitting out today for his third consecutive game after tweaking his hamstring early in Wednesday's game.
Despite the impending return of key players, Smith is making a strong case for a permanent spot in the lineup. He has the second-highest OPS in Texas among batters with more than five games played, higher than Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia.
With his versatility in the infield and experience in left field, expect Bruce Bochy to continue finding ways to keep Smith in the lineup even after the injured players return. Until you start to see Smith out of the lineup in Texas, he deserves a spot on your roster in 12+ team formats.
Smitty to the seats!
