The Green Bay Packers made a surprising move on Monday after free agency opened. Despite having Aaron Jones on the roster, the team went out and signed former Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs.
The team then cut Jones later in the day, handing the running back job to Jacobs, who now projects to be a top fantasy option with the Packers in 2024.

Josh Jacobs to the Packers: Fantasy Impact
When news first broke that the Packers were signing Josh Jacobs, his fantasy arrow was firmly pointed downward. With Jacobs expected to share the Packers backfield with Aaron Jones, it looked like both players would see a drop in production.
That changed when the Packers cut Jones later in the day because it meant that Jacobs would go into 2024 as the unquestioned lead back in Green Bay, especially when you factor in that A.J. Dillon is gone as well.

In 2022, Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards and rushing yards per game, but he saw a bit of a drop off in 2023, falling from 97.2 rushing yards per game down to 61.9 per game. The emergence of Zamir White contributed to that.
As of now, there's not a Zamir White on the Packers depth chart to siphon off touches. That could still change as free agency continues or during the draft. However, for now, Josh Jacobs projects to have a huge role in this offense.
The Packers did have the 11th-fewest rushing attempts in the NFL last season, but that isn't a huge concern for Jacobs as long as the team doesn't add another back to the mix. If Jacobs remains the clear-cut top runner in this backfield, then fantasy managers should view Jacobs very favorably.
Jacobs is a fantasy RB1 in 2024 and should end up being drafted early in the second round. He has a high floor and a high ceiling, though the Green Bay offense might prevent him from challenging for a spot as the overall RB1.
