ANALYSIS: Josh Hart is far from your average small-wing, big-guard. Hart truly sits in the sweet spot between those two labels. That's why the second-unit Pelican is putting up great rebounding numbers this season (7.6 RPG) while only playing 28 MPG on the year coming off the bench more often than not (he's started just two games of the 14 he's played through Thursday).
Hart had a rough stretch of cold shooting to start the 2021 calendar year, but other than that he's been efficient on a low dose of FGA per game (6.1) hitting 48.8 percent of his shots in the first four games of the season and the last four he's played combined. The lower averages in both points and rebounds make sense as Hart's minutes have gone down a bit of late, but Hart was able to pull down 8+ boards in four of his first nine games this season, and an average of 6.2 in his next five.
Another overlooked aspect of Hart's game is his passing prowess. His assist numbers are not mindblowing (1.8 APG on the year) but he's been getting higher digits lately (2.8 APG in the last seven days) and he just doesn't turn the ball over at all (2 TO in the last five games combined). Add a sweet 1.3 3PM per-game average and you get one of only three players posting up a 7-7 with <1 TO and 1+ trey per game--along with Kristaps Porzingis and Al Harford.
