BALLER MOVE: Consider in 3WR/2Flex leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR4
ANALYSIS: Whether due to a lingering knee issue or simply hitting the rookie wall, Indianapolis wide receiver Josh Downs has faded into a supporting role on the Colts' offense. There was a four-game stretch midseason when the rookie scored at least 13 PPR fantasy points every time out. Then, a knee issue flared up against Carolina, and he hasn't been the same.
Downs isn't being listed on any injury report but has been battling through flare-ups throughout the year. Upon returning to his regular allotment of snaps in Week 12, Downs hasn't reached that double-digit fantasy points mark. He received 13 targets from Gardner Minshew in that contest against Tampa Bay. In the following two games, the total target number sits at eight. Fellow wideout Alec Pierce is seeing more looks, although he hasn't done a whole lot with them either (outside of Week 13).
The entire passing game revolves around Michael Pittman Jr. No other receiving option has performed with any sort of consistency. Even with starting running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) on the sidelines, the coaching staff is not relying on Minshew and the passing game any more than usual.
The matchup against Pittsburgh isn't anything to worry about. The Steelers are hovering around the league-average mark in fantasy points to opposing wide receivers and defend slot receivers at about the same rate. If anything, cornerback Joey Porter Jr. should stick on Pittman. He's been outstanding as a rookie in coverage, which could open up more targets for other players. Still, Downs isn't earning enough work right now to be relied upon in the fantasy playoffs.
