Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Los Angeles Angels Reinstating Pitcher Jose Suarez From The Injured List
According to a tweet from the official X account of the Los Angeles Angels’ official communications department, the American League West club reinstated left-handed starter Jose Suarez from the injured list on Monday.
Per the tweet, the Angels also optioned right-hander Gerardo Reyes to Triple-A in order to make room for Suarez on the active roster.
So far this season, Suarez has made nine starts for the Angels, pitching to a 9.62 ERA and an 8.19 FIP (as well as a 7.15 xERA) in 24.1 innings of work. He’s also added 21 compared to 15 walks allowed while surrendering nine home runs.
It’s been an unideal season from a production standpoint for the 25-year-old. He logged a 3.96 ERA, a nearly identical 3.91 FIP, 103 strikeouts, 33 walks allowed, and 14 home runs surrendered in 109 innings spanning 22 appearances (including 20 starts) for the Halos last season.
And while he’s logged a reasonably solid 28.1% whiff rate so far this season, the starter has simply given up far too much in the way of hard contact to be trusted in fantasy formats outside of extremely deep leagues.
So far this year, Suarez has allowed a 13.8% barrel rate, a .398 xwOBA, a .443 xwOBAcon, and a 43.7% hard-hit rate. It’s a tiny sample size to be sure. But so late in the season, fantasy managers are likely better off looking elsewhere for streaming options in the rotation.
