Jose Siri is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for outfielders. Target Jose Siri as a free-agent outfielder for home runs and steals on the waiver wire.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 47% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: In 2022, Jose Siri had 325 PA with seven home runs and 14 stolen bases while pulling the ball 38.1% of the time. Then in 2023, Siri increased his pull percentage almost 8% on an absolute basis to 45.8%, which resulted in a significant increase in power output. That season, he totaled 25 home runs in 364 PA; a 12% relative increase in PA but a 257% relative increase in home runs. He also maintained his steals in 2023 with 12.
Siri's problem is that with his power comes a lot of swing-and-miss. Last season, he had a career-low 61.6% Contact% (league average was 76.4%) and he chased a ton of pitches outside the zone with an O-Swing% of 39.6% (league average 31.9%). This resulted in one of the highest strikeout rates in the league at 35.7% (league average 22.7%), and he doesn't walk much, as evidenced by his 5.5% BB% (league average 8.6%).
Regardless, with a 98th percentile sprint speed and an increase in plate appearances, it's not unreasonable to see Siri become a 20/20 player, or possibly even a 25/25 threat. The speedster appears well on his way to at least 20 in the stolen base department, as he's tied for the American League lead with six SB in the first 11 games (43 PA). Even with just 364 PA like last season, that's a 50 SB pace (0.14 SB/PA). Now, if he can only get the power numbers going, as he's got just one home run thus far (and two doubles).

With such a low contact rate, he'll have bouts of ineffectiveness, but if you can stomach the roller coaster ride that is Jose Siri, the power will eventually come and he'll provide fantasy managers plenty of home runs and stolen bases. In deeper leagues, he should already be rostered, but in 12-team leagues, there's probably at least a spot on your bench for him. The righty is available for the taking in over half of Yahoo leagues.
