Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Jose Altuve Being Placed On The 10-Day IL
The Houston Astros announced a series of roster moves on Thursday afternoon, per a tweet from the American League West club’s official Twitter account. Among the moves, per the tweet, was the team placing second baseman Jose Altuve on the 10-day injured list due to left oblique discomfort.
Houston also optioned reliever Parker Mushinksi to Triple-A and recalled fellow pitcher Ronel Blanco and infielder David Hensley.
Altuve has enjoyed a quality season for Houston so far, hitting .265 with a .371 on-base percentage, six home runs, and five stolen bases in 143 plate appearances.
As to who will replace the veteran in the short term, Hensley is certainly an option. The 27-year-old is batting .130 with a .221 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 86 major league plate appearances this season. He’s batted .220 with a .361 on-base percentage, three home runs, and four stolen bases in 147 Triple-A plate appearances.
What seems more likely, and this is purely speculative, is that Mauricio Dubon receives most of the starts at second in Altuve’s absence. The 28-year-old received the lion’s share of plate appearances earlier in the season when the veteran was on the injured list, and has provided both the Astros and fantasy managers alike with some solid production this year, batting .292 with a .317 on-base percentage, four home runs and five stolen bases in 284 plate appearances.
Dubon makes for a useful short-term streaming option for fantasy managers in leagues with 14 or more teams.
