BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 36% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Jorge Soler looked like a budding superstar when he slashed .292/.330/.573 in a cup of coffee with the Cubs back in 2014. He failed to deliver on that promise in two more seasons with the Cubs before falling out of favor (and the outfield rotation) and being dealt to Kansas City. Many fantasy owners took a late-round flier on him last season, hoping a clear path to playing time would allow Soler to become a reliable contributor. Instead, he suffered an oblique strain in spring training and never recovered, hitting just .144/.245/.258 in 110 plate appearances and spending much of the year in the minor leagues.
This season has thus far been a complete 180. Soler is hitting .308/.425/.510 with four home runs, and has spent the bulk of the season hitting either second or fifth in the Royals' batting order. The batting average will come down when his .406 BABIP normalizes, but Soler appears to be seeing the ball well based on his career-best marks in O-Swing%, Z-Contact%, walk rate, and hard-hit rate. Still just 26 years old, he's worthy of consideration in most mixers.
