ANALYSIS: I know what you're thinking. Akins only reached 11.9 PPR points once in all of last season while playing the full 16-game schedule. I know about that. Other than a 22.3-point performance all the way back in Week 3 when he caught three passes for 73 yards and two scores, he didn't do a lot for Houston. But Akins finished last season with a 10.4-point game and he's been able to keep it up to kick 2020 off.
Akins and fellow Texans' TE Darren Fells were targeted two times each on Thursday. The difference came down to Akins making the most of his two chances and Fells dropping a dud. Akins completed two receptions for 39 yards and a score (both targets from outside the red zone, mind you), while Fells fell short of those numbers with just 19 yards on his two completions.
The tight end position could turn into a headache for Houston. Both Akins and Fells are mid-tier players and will probably play some sort of committee throughout the year, as they did in 2019. That being said, it also makes sense to think of this pair as a perfect duo to go with the hot player in any given week. This, entering Week 2, is Jordan Akins. I'm not saying you should make Akins your perennial TE1, but if you're part of a moderately deep league, or playing the streaming game at the position, Akins is far from the worst addition and you will most definitely find him in the waiver wire (look at that paltry 1% ownership!)
