Jordan Akins (TE, HOU) - Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Even though Jordan Akins has just 55.5 PPR total points through Week 11, he is the TE28 of the NFL right now. That's insane. A borderline TE2 with that point total just shows how slim the position is. Akins' 7.9 PPR per game are just a bit better (TE23), but not much more, though. But at this point in the season and given the status of things, Akins is far from being the worst option for you at the position if you need some TE asset and are part of a deeper league.

Akins comes from his best game of the season, in which he dropped 13.3 PPR points on New England to the tune of 5 receptions on 6 targets, racking up 83 yards on that good usage. It's the first time Akins has played more than 24 snaps since Week 4, and his first game with more than 4 targets since Week 2. Back then he finished 7-of-7 for 55 yards. Feed Akins, and Akins will provide, I guess.

The truth is that Akins, when properly used, is more of a surefire TE2 with TE1 upside rather than a paltry TE3. He has four TE2 finishes this season, and even if he doesn't see 6+ targets every game ROS, he should still be a reasonably good addition for needy GMs.

You won't be able to exploit the matchups with Akins, though, as he's facing the 6th and 8th-best defenses against TEs next. After that, in W14 and if you're in the postseason, you might want shares of him, though. Houston will be playing against currently 26th-ranked Chicago in which looks like a monster-matchup, followed by a bad one in W15 but another cupcake to close the fantasy season (Cincinnati, 29th) in W16.
