ANALYSIS: A popular breakout pick this spring, Gray made just three starts before landing on the disabled list with a foot injury and missed two and a half months of action. While his overall numbers (4.18 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) certainly don't jump off the page, they're inflated by a disastrous outing against the Mets back on July 14. In that game, Gray allowed eight runs and retired only six batters. We can't pretend that didn't happen, but strip out that awful night and he has a 3.31 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 72:20 K/BB in 13 starts. Those numbers will play in almost any format.
Gray's schedule isn't what one would call easy, but he is on track to close out the year with a pair of games against the Padres and what will almost assuredly be the Dodgers' backups.
