Just last week, Johnny Manziel was given the reins of the Cleveland Browns and was named starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Unfortunately for him, he continues to be his own worst enemy. A video of Manziel holding a bottle of alcohol as he partied with friends surfaced just a few days ago. This video was allegedly taken during the Cleveland Browns Bye Week this past weekend. Earlier in 2015, the controversial star checked himself into a drug and alcohol rehab facility for a lengthy period of time.
Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine took action and moved Johnny Football from starter to third string on the quarterback depth chart because he felt Manziel “violated the trust.” This means we will see a familiar face as quarterback Josh McCown will resume starting quarterback duties.
When looking at the numbers closely, McCown has had a solid season as a fantasy football quarterback. In six games starting this year, Josh has thrown for an average of 308 YPG, 11 total touchdowns, with only four total interceptions. The Cleveland Browns' Week 12 game will be at home against the Baltimore Ravens who McCown demolished in Week 5 for 457 yards and two touchdowns. Don’t expect the same production, but I think it is safe to start Josh McCown in your QB2 slot with QB1 upside.
Stand-out tight end Gary Barnidge is probably the player that benefits most from McCown taking over for Manziel. In six games with McCown, Barnidge’s numbers are top two in the league with 36 receptions, 512 yards, and six touchdowns. With Johnny Manziel under center, the big tight end's numbers are not nearly as good. In Week 5 against the Ravens, Barnidge also had a monster day with eight receptions, 139 yards, and one touchdown. Firmly plant Gary Barnidge in your TE1 slot with the hope that he can re-create that Week 5 performance.
