ANALYSIS: Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Joey Wendle just keeps hitting – a pair of base knocks on Sunday extended his hitting streak to seven games, with multiple hits in each of the last five games. His season line now stands at .348/.410/.522.
Wendle does have a BABIP of .426 this season, but a hard hit ball rate of 38.2% shows that he is at least hitting the ball hard. A line drive rate of 16.4% (and one that was over 20% in every season since 2013 in the minors) shows that Wendle is able to sustain solid contact as well.
Wendle recorded multiple seasons with double-digit HR and SB in the minors and is worth grabbing in deep or AL-only formats at minimum. Matchups against the Tigers and Blue Jays should be ones that Tampa can exploit, as they look to build on the strong offensive start to 2018. It might not be great to hold Wendle for the long run, but definitely play him while he is hot.
