ANALYSIS: The Texas Rangers have just announced that Joey Gallo will be called up to the Majors on Tuesday when the club faces the Chicago Sox. Gallo, one of the league's top prospects and the top guy in the Texas farm system, will be skipping Triple-A to make his first MLB start against Jeff Samardzija and company. Samardzija, as well as other opposing pitchers, should be very worried. The 21 year-old third baseman is a serious power threat and has been said to hit the ball harder than Miguel Cabrera. To put things in reference, his 42 HR in 2014 were good for second in the MiLB, just one behind Kris Bryant. Through 34 games with Double-A Frisco, Gallo is slashing .314/.424/.636 with 9 HR and 31 RBI. That's some scary production.
The promotion comes on the heels of an Adrian Beltre thumb injury, which will keep the Rangers stud out for at least two weeks. Gallo's MLB stint isn't expected to last after Beltre's return. However, Gallo could be a real contributor right off the bat for these next two weeks. If he really impresses, who's to say he won't stick around?
