ANALYSIS: For Joe Mauer, that incredible 2009 season in which he hit 28 homers seems like a lifetime ago, and he has only hit 48 since. Once a perennial contender for the batting title, Mauer’s .265 average last season was a career worst. He’ll be 33 next week and is no longer catcher-eligible. He remains a line-drive hitter with a keen eye, though, and he’s off to a solid start in the early going, slashing .393/.486/.536 in his first eight games. Deep and AL-only leaguers may be able to squeeze a bit more blood from the stone.
