EXPERT ANALYSIS: Joe Mauer has found the power to turn back time (cue Bon Jovi). In the past two weeks, Mauer is stroking a cool .444/556/.750. In fact, the entire Twins offense has been a different story in the second half, thanks to contributions from Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco, Eddie Rosario and other youngsters. His .280 season average isn't quite vintage Mauer, but at age 33 the Twins are just thankful he has remained healthy all season. His recent hitting streak hasn't included much power, as he has hit just two HR in the last month. Mauer has never been a power hitter (2009 being an obvious outlier), so to count on him for anything other than a high AVG and decent RBI output would be a mistake. Mauer, a career .311 hitter, still has the ability to end the season with a .300 average. He has been up-and-down this year, thanks to a mid-season dip in BABIP. In fact, his current .322 BABIP is still 21 points below his career average. His streak may not last forever, but deep league owners looking for a streaming option or someone to fill in a CI or Util spot can take advantage of his hot hitting.
