BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 30% of Yahoo! leagues
ANALYSIS: The Detroit Tigers finally handed over the keys to the ninth inning to longtime top prospect Joe Jimenez, by trading All-Star Shane Greene to the Braves at the deadline.
Jimenez's overall season numbers are marginal, with a 4.70 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 9.8% walk rate, but a very nice 31.6% strikeout rate and a much more palatable 3.54 SIERA - a sign that his defense is not doing him any favors.
It's also worth noting that, since August 1 when he took over the closing role, Jimenez has a much better 3.86 ERA - although it comes with a 1.54 WHIP, an ugly 5.52 FIP, decreased strikeout and increased walk numbers.
With Detroit doing their best to not win any more games this year, Jimenez is not exactly a top closing option going forward. But if he's available in your league and you need saves, he's worth a look. He does rack up strikeouts in bunches, and while his ratios aren't great he is worth it if he can pile on a handful of saves for the rest of the season.
