Analysis: Joaquin Benoit only recently came off of the disabled list, which is why he has pitched just seven innings. In that time Benoit has accumulated a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and is allowing just 3.9 H/9. Benoit is currently walking 7.7/9 but four of his six total walks came in his first appearance of the season and his first appearance off of the DL. There is also the issue of Benoit's mediocre 3.86 ERA. It is important to note that two of his three allowed earned runs on the year came in his last appearance before going on the DL and the other run came in his first appearance back. Do we detect a pattern? Benoit's figures are skewed by a few rusty and injury plagued appearances in a small sample size. Benoit has also earned three holds this season, and is first in line to take over the Seattle closer spot if the struggling Steve Cishek gets the boot.
