ANALYSIS: Bye bye, Trey Lance. We're here not to celebrate a season-ending injury such as the sophomore rookie suffered last Sunday, but we gotta maximize our chances and exploit extraordinary windows of opportunity such as this one the minute they get open: rush to your WW and grab Jimmy Garoppolo this very second and before it's too late!
Jimmy G, who was this close to leaving San Francisco, is now a legit QB1 without any competition pushing him – let alone another QB usurping him from starting games as Lance did for the first two games of the season. Garoppolo entered the game at the end of the first quarter of the Week 2 game against the Seahawks and he will stay on the field for as much as his body can hold it.
Lance was blatantly bad in W1, mind you, so this change at the QB position is only going to be better for all San Francisco players. Garoppolo took it easy for his first appearance of the season, attempted 21 passes completing 13 of them (61.9%), and threw a touchdown while rushing for another one. All things considered, the 16.7 FP score he reached earned him a top-12 finish pending MNF.
Last season, playing 15 regular-season games, Garoppolo averaged 15.6 FP over those outings. He only finished outside of the top-15 QBs of the week in six of those 15 games. In the other nine, he averaged a top-12 finish among quarterbacks playing in those weeks' games. In terms of FP, he put up an average of 18 FPPG in those nine outings.
Garoppolo's part-time performance in Week 2 was the third-most efficient game by a quarterback so far this season. He put up 0.67 FP per action (pass attempts + carries), only behind Mahomes (0.81 in W1) and Lamar Jackson (1.10 in W2) figures in the first two weeks of play.
