ANALYSIS: Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon had an impressive finish to the 2022 season. Fantasy players hope the veteran running back can have a repeat performance during the fantasy football playoffs. Last week, he saw an expanded role on offense with Isiah Pacheco out of the lineup.
McKinnon had only seven touches in the loss to the Buffalo Bills. He totaled 37 offensive yards and a rushing touchdown, scoring 11.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game.
By comparison, the veteran running back averaged 4.6 fantasy points per game in the 10 contests he played with Pacheco. The second-year running back will miss his second consecutive game with a shoulder injury, creating more opportunities for McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Tomorrow, the Chiefs face the New England Patriots. The AFC East team is coming off an upset victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They held Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren to only 2.1 yards per rushing attempt and 12.3 fantasy points.
The Patriots have surrendered only 9.1 fantasy points per game and zero rushing touchdowns since their bye week. While Pacheco won’t play in this game, McKinnon doesn’t have enough upside to warrant a spot in fantasy football lineups.
