BALLER MOVE: Add for Upside All-Around Production
OWNED: 20% of Yahoo! Leagues
ANALYSIS: It is no secret that Jose Calderon's perimeter defense is severely lacking. It is only a matter of time before his successor at the point guard position, Jerian Grant, is given the opportunity to showcase his true talent as a starter.
Grant is a tough, hard-nosed point guard of the Mike Conley mold--a not-too-flashy, get-the-job-done type of player. He is not expected to score much, and in his first two games in a Knicks' uniform has shown only flashes of offensive creativity. However, he will produce assists, rebounds, and steals at an above-average rate for a guard due to his high motor.
Through two games (take it with a grain of salt), he is averaging 7.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and 6.0 APG--numbers that will keep any fantasy owner happy for an entire season. He will see see 23-28 minutes a game for the time being, which, while not amazing, should be expected to increase as the rookie gains experience in his first NBA campaign.
If there is one thing that must be preached in the case of Grant, it is this: patience. He will not take the league by storm with his scoring prowess nor dazzle anybody with dazzling assists, but he will be a solid, under-the-radar player who can get the job done on a refreshingly simple Knicks team.
Bottom Line: Add Jerian Grant for his potential all-around production later in the year, and with relatively low expecations, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by Grant's impact on your fantasy lineup.
