ANALYSIS: Jeremy Hellickson owns a mediocre 4.60 ERA on the 2015 season and his 1.32 WHIP is hardly impressive either. He has, however, pitched well since being shelled for 7 ER in 5.1 IP a month ago against the Padres. In four starts since that debacle, Hellickson has given up a grand total of 5 ER across 24 IP and struck out 22 batters in that span.
In July, he has a cool 1.88 ERA, and opposing batters have hit only .200 against him this month. Those are solid numbers for a pitcher who appears to be struggling mightily at first glance. In addition to that recent success, the 28-year-old boasts a respectable 7.7 K/9 which puts him just behind the likes of Sonny Gray and Zack Greinke, and he also has a more than capable offense behind him. As long as the Diamondbacks' lineup can keep providing run support, there's no reason to believe Hellickson can't be a solid pitcher as the summer turns to fall. He may even become a waiver wire steal.
