BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting in Standard Leagues, Add in Deeper or NL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: The good news is Jenrry Mejia won the fifth starters job for the Mets with a strong spring. In cactus league play, he posted a 2.70 ERA in his four starts and averaged nearly a strikeout per inning. Last year, in limited appearances, Mejia also posted a fantastic stat line of 2.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 27 K in 27 1/3 IP. However there are also health questions entering the season, as Mejia has dealt with a few injuries in his young career. Hopefully he can shake it off and resume his solid work in 2014. In the last two spring outings, Mejia struck out nine and gave up only two earned in 9 innings pitched. If he is unable to go at any point, Daisuke Matsuzaka is prepared to take the role in the rotation. In standard leagues, Mejia is worth monitoring on the waiver wire as an intriguing talent for fantasy. If you are in a deeper league, or NL only league, Mejia should be owned or added off the waiver wire as he is currently only owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues and presents significant upside if he can stay healthy.
