BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR3
ANALYSIS: Seattle Seahawks rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba has continued to make strides during his rookie season but is yet to have a big-time showing to go along with it. Just last week, Njigba caught four of his seven targets for 25 yards in the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Now he gears up for a Monday Night Football matchup against the reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. Despite Philly’s defensive line being one of the strongest units in the league, this team has been getting torched in the passing game.
Philly allows almost 260 yards per game through the air, good for the fifth-most in the league. They are also leading the league in fantasy points allowed to opposing WRs, and in receiving touchdowns allowed to receivers.
They have also been susceptible to allowing production to opposing slot WRs. Philly has allowed the second most fantasy points to slot receivers, a position where Njigba is playing roughly 69% of his snaps, the most out of this Seattle receiver group.
Despite the great matchup on paper, the rookie still falls behind WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in touches in the offense. Both Metcalf and Lockett have more targets, catches, and yards than Njigba this season.
On top of that, there are questions surrounding the QB position for Seattle on Monday Night. Starting QB Geno Smith (groin) is currently questionable, which would prompt backup QB Drew Lock to get the start.
The former Ohio State Buckeye is poised for a productive day against a favorable opponent but some additional factors such as volume and quarterback might limit his ceiling. Fantasy managers can look to include Njigba as a flex option in Week 15.
