BALLER MOVE: Consider as a flex in 10+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3
ANALYSIS: Javonte Williams isn't getting any favors from the Broncos' schedule in the fantasy playoffs. Denver's lead back tallied 20 total yards on 14 touches in Week 15 at Detroit, who allow the fewest rushing yards to running backs this season. His Week 16 opponent, the New England Patriots, is also one of six teams holding running backs to under 1,000 rushing yards.
The passing game is the best point of attack for running backs to be productive against New England. The Chiefs' running backs, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon, scored through the air. On the ground, they only averaged 2.8 yards per carry apiece.
Williams is a talented pass-catcher but he's not the primary receiving option out of the backfield. Denver opts to turn to Samaje Perine in two-minute drills and passing downs. The veteran has an equal amount of targets and carries (45) this season.
There's reason to be optimistic about Williams in 2024. The former second-round pick will be another year removed from his ACL and LCL tears. He's lacked a bit of explosion (averaging 3.72 yards per carry) and doesn't have a 100-yard rushing game this season.
The optimism ends there, though. With New England's recent history against running backs, Williams has a low ceiling once again this week.
