ANALYSIS: On Opening Day, the Detroit Tigers called on right-hander Jason Foley for the team's first save opportunity of the season. Andrew Chafin tossed a scoreless eighth inning and retired one batter in the ninth before being replaced by Foley. The 28-year-old struck out both batters he faced to earn his first save of the season.
Alex Lange was expected to be the team's primary closer heading into the year after recording 26 saves in 2023. Tigers' manager A.J. Hinch opted to use Foley over Lange for the team's first save opportunity in 2024. It's worth noting that Lange struggled this spring, posting a 5.14 ERA over seven innings.

Foley looked electric on Opening Day, topping 100 mph while striking out White Sox hitters Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert. While Foley did earn the team's first save, he still could be in a committee with Lange. Fantasy managers will have to wait and see how Hinch handles the closer role in Detroit's next save opportunity. Foley is available in over 90% of Yahoo leagues and is a speculative add for fantasy managers searching for saves early on or looking to replace an injured closer.
