Jason Castro (C, MIN) - Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Two-Catcher Leagues

OWNED IN: 15% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Castro isn’t someone you’ll ever look for in a standard league. He won’t play against righties, and is power reliant against righties. The good news is that the power is still there, blasting seven in just 66 at-bats this year.

It’s obviously not a trend he can keep up, but Castro has always exhibited a lot of power against right-handed pitching and he’s a guy that opposing pitchers are looking to pitch to when the Twins are up. The lineup is so potent, as an 8 or 9 hitter, he often sees cupcake pitches in an attempt for an easy out.

He’s a standard fantasy catcher that’s worth weekly streaming. If you can look ahead and see three or four righties in the Twins future, Castro is worth grabbing. If they’re facing off with a few southpaws, wait a week. He holds a .404 wOBA to righties, compared to a .250 against lefties. That is unless you’re in a two catcher league, in which Castro is a great option at all times. He gives you a ton more power than the other catchers available and you know exactly when to plug him in.
