BALLER MOVE: Start in all leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: QB1
ANALYSIS: The home/road split theory for Jared Goff has been thrown out the window.
For the majority of his Detroit career, he was markedly a better player for fantasy football while on the grounds of Ford Field. On the road, he could be avoided or benched. In two of his last three road games (albeit against the Buccaneers and Chargers), he's thrown for over 330 yards and two touchdowns. In his last two home games (versus Las Vegas and Chicago), Goff turned the ball over four times, threw three touchdowns, and stayed under 275 passing yards.
The point is, taking into account whether the former first-overall pick is home or on the road shouldn't be a factor in determining whether he's a fantasy football starter. The matchup plays a much larger role. In Week 12, Goff draws division rival Green Bay in a Thanksgiving Day special.
Goff and the Lions shouldn't have any issues scoring near their 27-point average (or more) against the Packers' defense. In Week 3 at Lambeau Field, they scored 34. The question is how they will go about it. Green Bay is the fifth-worst run defense in the NFL and the Lions have a pair of running backs that they prefer to rely on. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs will lead the offensive attack on Thursday.
With no shortage of scoring, playing Goff and relying on at least two scores is a good bet. After all, he still has one of the best receivers in football, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and tight end Sam LaPorta to connect with. Goff is a mid-range QB1 for Week 12.
