ANALYSIS:
Drafting Cook is a cheap ticket to the Justin Herbert show. This will be Cook’s 13th NFL season after two solid campaigns with the Saints that led to 16 combined TDs in 29 games. I’d expect similar TD looks from the Chargers offense after Hunter Henry, Donald Parham, and Virgil Green combined for eight scores in 2020. Henry accrued 93 targets in 14 games as the starter, meaning there is a path to 100 targets in the 17-game season for a healthy Cook. He's at least a top-14 TE and he has top-10 upside in a Herbert-led offense.
Let other people speculate on which of Henry and Jonnu Smith will take the lead for New England. Same regarding Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard for Tampa Bay. Heck, even Irv Smith Jr. has seen Tyler Conklin talked up behind him rather than expecting an expanded role for himself. Cook should be going ahead of these guys, but he's not (yet) so enjoy the discount.
