ANALYSIS: The Detroit Lions continue to ease their 2022 first-round pick in slowly, as Jameson Williams made the second appearance of his career in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams has spent the majority of 2022 rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered in the national championship game while at the University of Alabama. He made his NFL debut in Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars but logged just eight snaps on offense.
The rookie's workload was increased minimally in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings, as he ran six routes while being on the field for 19% of Detroit's offensive snaps. While Williams' role was still minor, he announced his presence by wrangling in a 41-yard TD catch in the first quarter.
His Week 15 performance gave fantasy managers a glimpse of Williams' outstanding playmaking ability and the impact he's likely to have in the coming years. That said, it's tough to project just how much work the youngster will be on the field for the remainder of the '22 season.
The Lions have shown a willingness to be patient with their prized rookie, which will likely limit his fantasy upside for the rest of this year. However, Williams has already demonstrated the ability to make splash plays on a limited snap count and those opportunities should continue to increase incrementally. Fantasy managers that are willing to embrace his boom-or-bust nature can gamble on him in the FLEX spot, though expectations should be kept in check for the talented receiver that's still working his way back.
