Former Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson has been traded to the New York Jets, so fantasy managers will surely be curious about his rest-of-season outlook. The former undrafted free agent was moved for a sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-round pick.
On the Jaguars' side of things, this signals wheels up for Travis Etienne as the workhorse back of an improved offense. The Jaguars slowly decreased Robinson's workload and gave Etienne more touches, but the move is still surprising given Robinson's production since he entered the league.
What does this trade mean for James Robinson and how will it affect Michael Carter? Let's dive into it.

Why Was James Robinson Traded To The New York Jets?
Rookie standout running back Breece Hall suffered a torn ACL and meniscus damage in the win over the Denver Broncos in Week 7. Hall was living up to being the first running back selected in the 2022 NFL draft, totaling 681 yards of offense and five touchdowns through his first seven games. For a moment, it looked like Michael Carter was set to be the clear lead back in New York with some help from Ty Johnson, but the trade on Monday evening changed everything.
The Jets wanted to strengthen their running back room in the absence of Hall, so they acquired Robinson at a fairly cheap price tag. In Robinson's first 35 games, he racked up over 2700 yards of total offense and 22 touchdowns as the Jaguars' lead back. He's proven to be capable of handling a big workload and doing a lot with it. At a 5-2 record, the Jets are very much in the playoff picture, so the trade made sense, even with Robinson becoming a free agent this offseason.
James Robinson Fantasy Football Outlook For the Rest of 2022
Robinson's rest-of-season outlook looked to be taking a turn for the worst as Travis Etienne was beginning to get ramped up and outproduce him. Now, his future is brighter with a fresh start in New York. He likely won't dominate touches, but he could see more of a workload than Michael Carter.
Robinson will likely get a fair touch share in the red zone and on the goal line, and the Jets have been among the league leaders in targets to running backs over the last two seasons.
Although the Jets' offense has struggled since Zach Wilson took over as the starter in Week 4, Robinson will have plenty of value as a mid-to-low-end RB2. Carter's value might increase a bit with Hall out of the picture, but he's still likely a risky flex play.
