BALLER MOVE: Add in Two Catcher Leagues
OWNED IN: 15% of Yahoo! leagues
ANALYSIS: The move from Comerica Park to Guaranteed Rate Field was expected to help catcher James McCann at the plate, although few could have expected the line he's currently boasting: .365/.412/.587 with three home runs and, somehow, two stolen bases in 16 games.
It goes without saying that McCann's average is unsustainable, although his xSlash line is a very respectable .296/.370/.510. That's held up by a career-high 91.8 mph exit velocity, which sits in the 84th percentile among hitters this season.
The sample size is small, and the White Sox aren't just going to give up on Welington Castillo, so there's reason to believe that his streak will be short-lived.
However, with the catching position being even more barren than usual this season, adding McCann while he's hot is definitely not a bad idea in deeper formats, particularly those that start two catchers. His playing time won't be consistent, but as long as he is hitting when he's in the lineup, he's worth a look in those deeper leagues.
