Fantasy Baseball Impact Of James Karinchak Reportedly "Expected" To Be Called Up By The Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians are reportedly "expected" to call up relief pitcher James Karinchak on Friday, per a tweet from The Athletic’s Zack Meisel on Thursday afternoon.
A constant in the Cleveland bullpen in the past few seasons, Karinchak owns a 3.21 ERA and a 3.42 FIP in 154.1 career innings for the American League Central club. Most recently, he’s made 32 appearances for Cleveland this season, throwing 27.2 innings and logging a 3.90 ERA and a 5.61 FIP in the process while turning in a pair of pitcher wins. The 27-year-old has struck out 38 batters during that span, but he’s also walked 19 hitters.
A quality option for saves and holds production in years past, Karinchak has logged 12 holds. He’s certainly someone to keep an eye on in terms of late-game situations in Cleveland, in terms of ancillary saves, and (particularly) holds alongside the likes of Trevor Stephan, Sam Hentges, Eli Morgan, and Enyel De Los Santos.
Emmanuel Clase has registered 32 of the team’s 35 saves so far, but there have been a number of fantasy-relevant relievers where holds are concerned.
Cleveland Guardians 2023 Holds Leaders:
- Trevor Stephan- 20 holds
- Enyel De Los Santos- 13 holds
- James Karinchak- 12 holds
- Sam Hentges- 10 holds
- Eli Morgan- seven holds
- Nick Sandlin- seven holds
