BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 36% of leagues
ANALYSIS: A former first-round pick back in 2015, James Kaprielian pitched fewer than 30 innings in his first four years as a prospect due to elbow and shoulder problems. Now healthy, he's gotten off to a great start in 2021 with a 1.53 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. The ratios won't stay that pristine once his .186 BABIP and 98.5% strand rate regress, but the 27-year-old owns three plus off-speed pitches and a fastball that tops out at 95.
Two of his next three scheduled starts will come against the Mariners and Royals, two bottom-10 offenses. In between is a start at Coors Field that should probably be avoided, but Kaprielian is a solid short-term waiver option in all formats with potential for more.
