It's becoming harder and harder to trust running backs in fantasy football. That could be why only four backs (Christian McCaffrey, Breece Hall, Bijan Robinson, and Jahmyr Gibbs) have an ADP inside the top 13 in drafts this season.
However, if you are looking for a running back in the middle-to-late rounds, James Conner, David Montgomery, and Rhamondre Stevenson could be solid targets. All three of those backs should be in store for plenty of touches this upcoming season.
So, let's take a look at fantasy football outlooks for Conner, Montgomery, and Stevenson in 2024.

James Conner 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Most managers tend to avoid older running backs in fantasy, especially those who are in their age-29 season. That's usually when running backs tend to fall off. However, Conner showed no signs of slowing down last year. The veteran totaled 208 carries for a career-high 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.
Notice the finesse and speed that James Conner does this drill at as opposed to the other 5 RBs doing this drill. May not be much to show but man does James Conner look good in Camp 👀 #BirdGang

Of course, the Cardinals selected running back Trey Benson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Therefore, Conner could see fewer opportunities in 2024. Nonetheless, this Cardinals backfield still runs through the veteran. That makes him a sneaky option at his 62.9 ADP on Sleeper. The 29-year-old has finished as a top 20 running back in PPR formats in three straight seasons, including as the RB19 in 2023. As a result, he'll have a high floor in fantasy once again this year.
David Montgomery 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Montgomery enjoyed a strong 2023 campaign, led by his 13 rushing touchdowns. Those 13 scores and 1,015 rush yards helped him finish as the RB17 in PPR formats. While most believe that Gibbs will be the Lions' primary back in 2024, don't be surprised if the veteran still has a large role on offense.
Jahmyr Gibbs said he and David Montgomery have goals this season as a Lions duo.

That's why Montgomery is a great high-floor selection at his 65.3 ADP on Sleeper. He'll see plenty of touchdown opportunities while being a consistent fantasy option. Last season, the 27-year-old scored in double figures in PPR formats in all 13 full games he appeared in. Gibbs will likely see more involvement on the ground and through the air, but there's no reason why Montgomery can't finish as a fantasy RB2 again.
Rhamondre Stevenson 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
In 2022, Stevenson broke out in his second NFL season. He finished as the RB7 in PPR formats while averaging 14.7 fantasy points. Last year, though, the Patriots running back really struggled to put up consistent fantasy numbers. He rushed for just 619 yards and finished as the RB35 in PPR formats.
However, a better season should be in store for the fourth-year running back. The Patriots will be operating a new offense in 2024, which should benefit the 26-year-old. As a result, given what he did two years ago, he might be worth a shot at his 75.3 ADP on Sleeper. But be careful because the team added Antonio Gibson this offseason. Gibson could take away receiving work from Stevenson in 2024, limiting his fantasy ceiling.
