Jameis Winston (QB, NO) - Fantasy Football Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: For someone with Jameis Winston's production this season, the truth is that the near-50% rostership will end falling sooner rather than later. That doesn't mean Winston should be thrown straight out of every fantasy-squad window, though. Winston is producing low numbers but his approach to the game has been way more tamed than in years past and that, paired with the low volume is sort of helping him play to QB2 levels for the Saints.

Don't get it wrong. Winston is far from the QB4 and 8th-best overall fantasy player version he showed in Week 1 against Green Bay when he racked up 29.6 FP to the tune of a 20-14-148-5 (yes, that is 5 TDs) passing line to go with 37 yards on 6 carries rushing. That's Winston's ceiling if anything, and while he has reached those nonsensical heights here and there, it's not going to happen weekly. It's probable that Winston is neither his W2 version (no scores, 2 interceptions, 111 yards on 11 completions), but Jameis' W3 performance looked like a good middle-ground game for assessing Winston's fantasy upside.

Winston completed 13 of the 21 passes he attempted (third consecutive game with 22 or fewer attempts) for 128 yards and a couple of scores on the day. The 13.5 FP were good only for a low QB23 finish pending MNF, and the volume is just so low that it's a do-or-die proposition for Winston. The minute he gets picked, his fantasy points would crater, and we all know it will happen. That being said, New Orleans will bring reinforcements to its barren of talent receiving corps while we get deeper into the season, so it makes sense to roster Winston in advance now in large formats and 2QB/Superflex leagues for when that time comes.
